To the obvious Gator/student/fan/whoever you think you are....you need to go back and look at the game film and tell me what the running back did to Spikes to make him want to gouge his eyes. If a lineman headbutted him or ripped his helmet off and Spikes wants to do something about it he can go pick on that person not the running back that is stuck under a pile of bodies and is doing what he supposed to be doing. I really don't know how this crap article got posted but whoever wrote it and whoever allowed it to be posted should be flogged, stoned, and down right beat for ignorance, and when thats all said and done I'd love to gouge out your eyes and see how you like it.

Please someone post, on Youtube, the Fox broadcast of the aftermath of the first Georgia offensive play (10:53 of the first quarter). It clearly shows (unlike the CBS tape, where a player was in the way) that Ealey jambed his hand under Spikes face mask deliberately (and in slow-motion, close-up at that). This is bad sportsmenship, and dangerous. No wonder Ealey doesn't think Spikes should be punished. He and his buddies were trying to take Spikes out of the game. I notified ESPN, but they want to make Spikes the villian.

I've heard about a running back nearly having the family jewels twisted off in a big pile, strange things happen. It wasn't a clean game by either team and that's what gets me, everyone is pointing the finger at Spikes and to suggest Brandon was at the level of Blount is ignorant. To think it was worse well that's just insane. Blount knocked a guy out then had to be restrained from going after fans by police all this was after the game. Spikes reacted for a second while in game action. The two actions aren't even close.

It's sad reading all these opinions. We have the fans that never could play, and watched; telling those that did how wrong it is to irritate the other teams players in a pile.

First I am not sure that Spikes was going after the eyes. I think he was going after the nose. As anyone who's played knows not to stick your finger in the other players mouth. Funny how that happens in a pile. I am sure if it's a Gator then the Gator must have been trying to pull teeth..... The other guy wasn't trying to bite him.

Second if Spikes was going after the eyes, he did a pretty lousy job.

Swampie, you are the BEST! And I agree with your take, but I'm wondering why Spikes and a lot of the other players refuse to button up their helmets correctly. If you watch replays of the game, you will notice that Spikes doesn't secure all the snaps on his chin strap. If Spikes gest a concussion, it will be his own dumb fault. Have you ever seen so many lost helmets as we've seen this year? It's as if Spikes is trying to make the ESPN highlights every game. Snap that crap on guys, before you get really hurt!

You're all morons if you think gouging somebodys eye out is justification for his helmet getting ripped off. Why don't you take a closer look at the game...Spikes only wears one of his chin straps buckled and that's why his helmet kept coming off. And the suspension is a laughable. Half a game? I seem to remember Albert Haynesworth stomping on a players head and getting a five game suspension in the NFL. And for those proponets of eye gouging because "it happens all the time in the pile", that's the argument of a first class dirtbag and doesn't make it right. So lets say I go around stealing clothes from department stores and nobody sees it and other people do it too, that makes it right? Probably in the eyes of the dirtbags wearing their five finger discount jean shorts.

He should be kicked out of college football for life. Helmets getting knocked off happens, head butts happen nearly every play, it's called football and it's a part of tackeling. He could have taken this players sight for life. Thats not excusable.

Why the hell didnt they suspend his ass for the rest of the season? That was intentional, hateful, and typical of a Florida Gator. It is also typical of an asshole Florida gator fan to post a dumbshit blog like this one.

The fact of the matter is that those plays were looked at. They were not missed. They were NOT as bad as what Spikes did. I'm with the other guys in that Spikes wears his chinstrap, that has 4 buttons, with three of them. He wants to be like Michael Vick I guess. Anyways ESPN was right in that he was endangering the players livelyhood. He could go BLIND!

This post was crap! Just another Florida Gator fan whining away. Tell Urban Meyer to step up and suspend him for the rest of the season if he will not let that get in the way of another national title. This is not the first nor the last time Spikes has done or will do this.

The poor judgement is shown by aging frat boys basing their self esteem on the record of their alma mater (or, in many cases, the school they wished they'd gone to if they had gone to college). Brandon Spikes tried to blind a rival player. How in God's name can you honestly justify that behavior? Is it that important to you that UF win football games?

What did your parents tell you when you tried the "they did it first" defense? I ask that because your justification is similar to that of an 8-year old. Spikes' behavior was reprehensible at best. He did serious damage to his draft status. Don't think that type of action slipped past the pro scouts. Certainly he'll be drafted, but a lot of teams will question whether they want such a thug on their team and he will slip down the list.

Urban Meyer, by his inaction, damaged the school's reputation. He let it be known that winning trumps everything in Gainesville. Too bad. I thought he was a coach with character and conviction.

I agree completely; as a Gator fan and one who has always been for whoever is playing GA, this game enfuriated me, to the point that i've concluded that UGA football players are nothing but thugs. Their behavior says it all -- a personal foul within 2 minutes of the game and i believe that was the first removal of Spike's helmut...?! Come on.... Shame on the coaching staff, for allowing the team to blatently rough players and be penalized with so many personal fouls...averaging 75 yard losses, PER GAME - ?! really? Spikes followed Tebow to UF - he should've followed Tebows attitude and avoided the finger-move.

Blount's actions might have been worse, it doesnt NOT make Spikes a piece of crap. Anyone that would dive their hand in someone's eyes after he is down and seriously threatening their livelihood, whether he pursues football or not, is a real scumbag. That kind of crap can ruin someone for life, but its OK because he plays a GAME for a team that you like. Ridiculous. I hope not all Gators fans share this frame of thought.

Anyone see the comments by Eally saying spikes shouldnt be suspended at all? or that when a player gets into a fist fight on the field or comes off the sideline to fight the usually get a half game suspension. You people have obviously never played football.

The classic "They started it" excuse. I think you are right that those players should have received more of a punishment, but that doesn't mean that Spikes can just start poking at everyone's' eyes.

While I agree Blounts actions were worse.....If Spikes would properly secure his helmet onto his head it would not come off, and this half a game suspension is little less than a slap on the wrist.
